With deep conical sides rising to an indented border below the rim, applied with a lustrous mottled russet and brown glaze stopping well before the short foot to reveal the brown body. Song Dynasty period.

盞撇口，斜直壁，小圈足。胎呈鐵黑色，裡滿釉。外施釉不到底，其釉質潤澤，釉色烏黑。釉面散佈著許多黃色或淺黃花色斑點。關於天目釉的來源，有幾種說法。有的說是日本人把底釉上奇異的色點驚為天之目，故稱天目釉;有的認為產於福建、江西等地。天目釉有耀變、玳瑁、油滴、兔毫、木葉等斑色，已經失傳了800多年，在中國陶瓷專著中有介紹，可惜在國內已無實物存世。宋代曾有一位來訪的日本和尚把幾件天目釉瓷器帶往日本，至今只有在日本存世屈指可數的幾件作品。
