LI ZHONGFANG: A YIXING OCTAGONAL TEAPOT    仲芳款 八角壺

The shapely teapot is of triangular shape with eight equal sections, the raised spout in tapering rectangular form, the C shaped handle round, all supported by eight slightly extended feet, and the clay mixed with thick sand. Bottom bears colophon and artist signature “Zhong Fang”.


此壺三角形,方直流,圓把,八足摻粗砂,古意盎然。甲午冬日水鏡先生命作,仲芳。
Li Zhongfang was a master Yixing teapot maker during Ming Dynasty Wanli period. He was the son of Master Li Maolin, and student of Master Shi Dabin. Today, some of the Dabin teapots still have the combined artist mark “ZHONGFANG” and “DABIN”.
李仲芳,萬曆時人,李茂林之子,時大彬門下。今日所傳大彬壺亦有仲芳作之大彬署款者。
