Chinese. Of cylindrical form with square projections on four corners, carved with five registers of stylized masks comprising of bands of narrow parallel grooves and incised circular ‘eyes’, the green jade with cloudy off-white 'calcified' areas and dark brown veining. Possibly Liang Zhu culture, Neolithic period.

玉琮整體呈上寬下窄的長方柱形，外方內圓，形制修長。玉料為黃綠色，有透光性，質地致密油潤，灰白色沁色深入肌理，包漿渾厚，滄桑古意動人。玉琮中心對穿大圓孔，孔道內 壁管鉆螺旋痕跡明顯，中段部位可見台痕。器表每面中央有一垂直凹槽，並以較粗橫刻陰弦紋為界，將琮體分為五節，每節四角交替浮雕“神人紋”。神人面部以上面兩道凸起弦紋表 示羽冠，以兩重圓圈表示眼睛，外圈兩端各有一道短陰線象征眼角，下面一道凸起的短橫表示鼻子。整器巧妙運用剔地淺浮雕與陰刻線條兩種表現手法神人的鼻部，獸面的橢圓形眼、 鼻、嘴等部位均以極細陰線滿飾圓渦紋，形如指紋，整體體量巨大, 實屬難得。 來源: 重要紐約私人收藏
