《說文》稱：“璧圓象天”，《周禮》則有“以蒼璧禮天”之說。這說明璧之圓形是仿“天圓”而作。其功能主要用於祭天的禮器，另外也有辟邪或是等級與財富的象征，又體現了先民們對神秘莫測的的敬仰。黃玉制成，玉色古舊，帶黑褐色沁色，造型規整，兩面均光素無紋。
