This white jade is exquisitely carved as an older crouching mythical lion with its younger lion cub tucking its paw in its wide-open mouth, its massive head is highlighted by the bulbous eyes, the mane and tail finely detailed with incised lines. The stone is of smooth polished white jade overall. Qing Dynasty Qianlong period.

“太獅少獅”借諧音“太師少師”,寓意望子成龍,官運亨通, 代代相傳。太師為自西周就有的官稱。少師是春秋時期楚國設立的職位,與少傅、少保合稱三少,歷代沿襲。 “太師少師”為古代文人士大夫從政為官的最高理想。
此件拍品為和闐白玉所刻,玉質白皙,溫潤細膩。圓雕大小雙獅,大獅呈俯臥狀,前肢交合,體型肥碩,頭部側扭,雙目圓睜,鼻作如意形,口闊而微張露齒,威猛中略見祥和之神,鎮定中又含起躍之勢。小獅與大獅相向而行,呈親暱嬉戲之態,活潑生動,為清中期圓雕不可多得之精品。
