Of rectangular section, the cover finely lacquered with two confronting dragons rising from turbulent waves and sacred mountain chasing flaming pearl, all enclosed in shape cartouche, the side delicately decorated with similar design of dragon and floral scrolls, all reserved on dense diaper ground, the front inlaid with a shape metal plate with lock receptacles and a lobed ruyi-shape lift-up hasp further detailed with five-clawed dragon design. Early Qing Dynasty period.

戧金彩漆始於元代，明嘉靖時期已十分成熟，為“戧金”和“彩漆”兩種同時施於一器之上的工藝，先在漆地上凹刻花紋，再填漆後戧金，勾勒出來的圖案的輪廓及的細部紋理裝飾分明，呈現出富麗堂皇的效果。此江崖海水龍紋畫箱通體以朱漆為地，戧金彩漆為紋，蓋表面飾海水江崖紋，兩旁飾雙龍戲珠，祥雲飄忽，側壁飾纏枝蓮紋及海水江崖紋，整體造型大方，用料考究，作工精湛，色彩包括紅，黃、綠、黑、赭、灰等，高貴華麗，保存至今彌足珍貴，應為清早期官造之器。類似紋飾器物可參考香港蘇富比 2009年10月 拍品號1749
