The exterior of vase is painted in copper-red with scene of deer and crane upon the river bank among pines, plums, bamboo, and orchids, above the river with swimming ducks and below birds in flight within auspicious clouds, all flanked by a band of swirling pattern and geometric band, the gently sloping shoulder further decorated with leafy flowering and fruiting branches.
