The Guanyin avalokiteshvara is shown seated in royal ease reclining against a pierced rockwork, his right knee raised above left feet, wearing loose-fitted robe in elegant folds, his face is shown with downcast eyes and benevolent expression, flanked by two pendulous earlobes, hair tied into a topknot and detailed with incised lines. A Buddhist lion cub is carved standing by his left knee sniffing a rising leafy lotus stem. All supported on a finely carved and pierced hardwood stand carved with cresting waves. Qing Dynasty Qianlong period.
