One side of the pendant is carved with Chinese characters Zhai Jie meaning abstinence within a gourd shaped panel, flanked by two auspicious bats amidst stylized clouds in openwork. The other side is similarly carved but is written in Manchurian script. The ivory with natural patina and age related imperfections.
