This dish is finely enameled in the center with two ladies examining a sword in a study setting. The border is decorated with alternating ruyi-shaped scrolling foliage scenes and cartouches enclosing peaches and chrysanthemum. The bottoms is written in nine character 'DAOGUANG' seal mark. Qing Dynasty period.
The mark of the present dish indicates it is specifically made in 1840 for an aristocratic family during the Daoguang period. Mark of this type is illustrated by Liu Ju-shui Appreciation of Ceramics in Song, Ming and Qing Dynasty. Taiwan, 2004, p.366. 此碗為道光1840年時為定王府所燒。此類款名,在劉如水先生所著《宋元明清瓷器鑑賞》366頁有記載。
