山子，古人謂之假山，是文人書房中常見之雅設，多以山水畫為據，使突兀嶙峋之畫面躍然成體，秀麗於書案之前，使人觀之如山，有如神遊妙境，其紋常集山水、草木、茅舍、亭台、樓閣、人物、花卉諸品於一體，構圖唯美，意境深遠，時而壯闊雄偉，時而幽僻靈秀。此件山子用料講究，取材桔皮田黃，為田黃中上乘者，質純潔凝膩，石間隱約顯現出纖細如絲的蘿蔔紋，拂拭而過，十分可人，稀有難得。
