AN EMBROIDERED 'EMPEROR IN BUDDHA'S ORNAMENTS' THANGKA    清中期 乾隆化佛刺繡唐卡

The thangka is finely embroidered with the central figure of the Qing Emperor dressed as bodhisattva seated upon the lotus throne in dhyanasana, with right hand raised in karana mudra, his head backed by a mandorla, further surrounded by various attendants and buddhist deities, all below three large mandala in the top register representing the three yidam of Emperor. Mid Qing Dynasty period.


唐卡起源唐朝,至有清一代,隨著歷代帝王對藏傳佛教的大力推崇,唐卡的發展臻至鼎盛。本品尺幅甚大,畫面恢弘,使用各種鮮色絲綢,以較粗絲線搭配細線、金線結合繡成,繡像繁縟細致,彰顯著清代唐卡工藝的嚴謹精湛。乾隆篤信佛教,曾奉三世章嘉活佛為師修習藏密,被蒙藏地區尊為文殊菩薩化身的大皇帝。畫面正中乾隆帝為中年形象,面目清秀,留須,雙目凝視,反映出內心的安詳。頭戴班智達帽,身著僧衣,右手結說法印,左手結禪定印,上托法輪,全跏趺坐於蓮花托須彌座上。最上方示現其修行本尊的三座壇城。第二層正中為上師三世章嘉,章嘉小像的左右兩側分別描繪出諸佛菩薩。乾隆像背光四周環以藏傳佛教歷代先師,空檔處填繪繁密的花朵及花枝。座下兩側集結著以空行母、金剛亥母為主的佛母、菩薩等諸神。再下兩角為八尊護法神。最下一層為屍陀林主、四大天王及諸供養護法。整附畫面完整,意象深遠,工藝絕倫。雖歷經年月,仍色彩鮮明,乃不可多得之神品。來源:洛杉磯重要私人藏家提供
