The Thangka is finely woven in the center to depict the guru Jamchen Chojey seated in vajra paryankasana on a plinth, wearing richly decorated inner and outer robes finely embroidered overall with dragons chasing flaming pearl amidst clouds, his hands raised in dharmachakra mudra and holding lotus blossoms bearing a vajra and bell on both sides, wearing his characteristic cap with upturned lappets and vajra finial, further backed by a circular mandorla, with a Tibetan and Chinese inscription to the right top and a large square seal mark to the left top, all below an elaborately jewelled canopy flanked by clouds. Ming Dynasty period.


大慈法王釋迦也失為宗喀巴大師的親傳弟子。作為宗喀巴大師的代表,在藏歷第七繞迥木馬年奉明朝永樂皇帝之召,到內地講經傳法。大慈法王在內地期間,給皇帝和大臣們傳授了許多教法,並在五台山修建了六座寺廟,成為黃教在內地的第一個傳播者。由於佛事活動非常成功,皇帝極為高興,授予其“妙覺圓通慧慈普應輔國顯教灌頂弘善西天佛子大國師”的封號,並賜印誥。緙絲是一種以生蠶絲為經線、彩色熟絲為緯線,通過古老而繁複的“回緯”技法來織造的平紋織物。緙字之意,梁顧野王《玉篇》中釋為“織緯也”,故“通經斷緯”法,即為緙絲技藝的最大特點。一寸緙絲一寸金,緙絲之高貴,首先因其耗費工時巨大, 需要純熟的工藝技巧和相當的藝術修養, 具有極高的藝術鑒賞價值。此緙絲大慈法王像,尺幅巨大,主體以藍色底面,法王端坐正中,額際高廣,臉龐圓腴,相容慈和寧謐,目光下斂,身著僧衣,僧裙,外披袈裟,坐於寶座之上,上方綉漢藏文及印文。此唐卡整體採用緙絲技術織成,在關鍵的袈裟上以極其少見的金線工藝製作而成,具有明顯的立體效果。由於金線工藝的運用,更使得整體觀之無比的莊嚴與奢華,構圖繁複華麗,做工十分精湛,實為明代緙絲之登峰之作。來源:北加州藏家提供
