A GILT-BRONZE WHITE JADE 'SHOU' RUYI SCEPTER    清 銅鎏金嵌玉百壽如意

The ruyi head carved in the form of peach and carved in shallow relief with bat over a large peach, the front and back of shaft incised with numerous shou characters in various styles. Qing Dynasty period.


如意,又稱“握君”、“執友”或“談柄”,由古代的笏和搔杖演變而來。其材質多樣,大多取金、銀、竹、木、玉石、牙角為之。器身呈彎曲回頭之狀,有“回頭即如意”的吉祥寓意。明、清時期,它從實用器物逐漸演化為陳設珍玩,故有“椒戚都趨珠寶市,一時如意價連城”的詩句。此如意以鎏金銅所制,柄身滿飾百壽紋,如意柄首鑲飾碩厚白玉片,淺雕壽桃蝙蝠紋,寓意吉祥,典雅端莊,實為文房陳設上乘之器。
