The circular dish is finely carved through thick layers of cinnabar lacquer with four leafy blossoming peonies issuing from the rockwork all against the leiwen ground. The frieze to the exterior is carved with scrolling foliate patterns. The base is applied with black lacquer. Qing Dynasty period.
