YANG PENGNIAN: A YIXING "HEHUAN" TEAPOT    楊彭年製 曼生銘 合歡壺

Of flattened ovoid form with sharply tapering shoulder, the top and bottom of teapot equally shaped, with the foot ring and the rim of same dimension as well. The teapot of charcoal color, with an one line colophon by "Man Sheng" on the top surface, and four character "Yang Pengnian" mark on the bottom. Chen Mansheng, original name Chen Hongshou (1768-1822), courtesy name Zi Gong, and many art names including Man Sheng, Lao Man, Man Shou, Man Gong, Zhongyu Xianke, and Zhongyu Daoren. He was born in Zhejiang province, Qiantang city (Hangzhou city), during Qianlong and Jiaqing Dynasty periods, and was the most famous one of the "Eight Artists of Xi Leng". He was a prolific writer, and specializes in carving. Since he was a devout Buddhist and a Yixing stoneware enthusiast, the mark "A Man Tuo Shi" became his and his descendants’ signature cultural mark. Later, he worked with Master Potter Yang Pengnian and made many Yixing teapots, categorized under "Man Sheng Teapots", significantly altered the Yixing stoneware’s future.


此壺狀如上下兩片等量紫砂上下擁抱,圈足與壺口大小也是相互呼應。 陳曼生,本名陳鴻壽(1768-1822),字子恭,號曼生,老曼,曼壽,曼公,種楡仙客,種榆道人。浙江錢塘(今杭州人),乾隆嘉慶年間人,為西冷八家之一,擅長古文辭,精於雕琢。陳曼生篤信佛教,酷愛紫砂,故阿曼陀室,也就成了陳曼生與後人的標誌性文化標籤,後又與楊彭年合作製作大量紫砂壺,也就是著名的曼生壺,因此也就成為"西冷八家"中最受關注的人,而其與楊彭年合作之壺應可謂影響後人紫砂業甚钜之事。
